BOARD OF DIRECTORS NEEDED TO FILL VACANCIES

At the annual shareholders meeting we will be electing five directors.  The terms of Tom Pomerville, Tom Duch, Ray Weber and John Cederstrom are expiring this year.  A fifth vacancy has to be filled to complete Colleen Brandy’s term which expires in 2012.  The current board members have been doing an excellent job managing the club, but would welcome new ideas from new members.  Help us out, contact a board member.

STANDARDS
Tom Duch

The board has mentioned two areas that they would like to see improvements for our club. These improvements can be accomplished by each of our members.

The first concern is not only an improvement, but a safety issue.  As standards officer, I will be looking to see if you are using the correct electrical cords.  Our rules require us to use Marine grade #10 AWG wire.  This includes all adaptors and extension cords.

The second concern is the dock boxes.   There are a few issues with the dock boxes:

  1. Boxes have been removed and the support structure remains
  2. Dock boxes are not straight, because the support structure needs attention
  3. The dock box itself needs attention

Please give your dock box the attention it needs to help our club look its best.

GIN POLE

To use the gin pole, contact Dennis Albee, Bill Salisbury, or Deb Salisbury. Dennis can be reached at 989 835-6847. The Salisbury’s can be reached at 989-662-2218. Please plan ahead and give them at least 2 days notice.

OLD KEYS

Please drop old keys in boxes in bath houses.

OIL BOOM

The club has 40’ of oil boom (4 boxes) stored in the east grill storage area. These boom sections are to be tied end to end with a small overlap to contain and absorb the spill around a boat or boats or across the waterway as we did with our first spill 2 seasons ago. We also have a box of oil absorbent pads stored in the west maintenance room. Contact any board member for access. These pads are used to float on the surface of the spill to absorb oil.

Please, insure your bilges are clean and that oil and other pollutants are not pumped overboard by the bilge pump. Oil releases, no matter how small, are required by law to be reported.

NEWS AND REMINDERS

ANTI-SIPHONING DEVICES

Please do not remove the anti-siphoning devices from the hose hook ups. They are required by law to be there.

DOCK BOXES

Please level up your dock boxes. Besides being unsightly, many are collecting rain water and providing breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

DOCK MODIFICATIONS

Modifications to your docks must meet club standards which require you to fill out a form to make those modifications. If your modifications are above or below the club standards then a variance must be applied for via a variance form, (See Tom Duch for forms). Owners please inform your renters of this requirement.

BIKE RACKS

Please use the racks and do not store bikes in the laundry rooms or back rooms of the bath houses.

NO FISH GUTS IN THE DUMPSTERS

Please, the dumpsters are not emptied often enough to make large deposits of fish guts in the dumpster acceptable.

TREASURER
Ray Weber

Colleen Brandy was elected treasurer for the 2010 – 2011 fiscal year.  In November she accepted a job offer in Slidell, Louisiana and resigned from the board and the office of treasurer.  The remaining board members voted that Bill Schoenherr fill her board vacancy until the next election by the shareholders at the April 30th shareholder meeting.  I volunteered to fill the treasurer’s office until the shareholders meeting.

FLEET CAPTAIN
Stan Musial

During the 2010 Boating Season at SSYC we had 146 boats registered:

54 Sailboats                 92 Power Boats

52 Shareholder             94 Renters

Four (4) Slips were sold during the 2010 season, (3 to previous renters and 1 to a current shareholder)

NEW FOR 2011 SEASON: look for a change in the Mooring Forms (basically asking for the same information but, just in a different format).

OPERATIONS
John Cederstrom

Volunteers are needed to help install new faucets and vacuum breakers at the docks before the water is turned on in the spring. The time and dates for this activity are 10:00am on March 26 & 27 and April 2 & 3. If you can lend a hand please contact:

Dock #127 is still in need of a replacement dock post due to a badly eroded post. We hope to contract this with Causley Marine Contracting this year.

We plan on having Jerry Somalski from Bay Landscaping assess the condition of the club trees this spring.

All 4 shower fans in the bathhouses were rerouted last fall by the roofing contractor from the gable ends to non-powered roof vents.

MEMBER PARTICIPATION
Tom Pomerville

We wish to THANK all the Shareholders and Renters who volunteered their time in 2010 to complete the many projects associated with defining SSYC as the FINEST in our area.

Projects completed by volunteers last year include:

Ø       Ceiling tile replacement in the Clubhouse

Ø       Dock pole covers replaced or repaired

Ø       Rip-rap repair

Ø       Rip-rap weed control

Ø       Hailor Newsletter assistance

Ø       Misc painting around the Club

Ø       Gazebo power washed and painted

Ø       25th Anniversary Party

Ø       Bathhouses power washed

Ø       Dumpster fence moved, boards replaced and painted

Ø       New pump house sheds installed

Ø       Dock numbers replaced

Ø       New electrical in all pedestals

Ø       And last but not least “The Almighty Fence Painting” completed around the Club

While volunteering, we all had a chance to get re-acquainted with our old friends, meet new friends, tell a few tales and have fun.  We have logged in over 700  volunteer hours in 2010 but know that more hours were incurred.  Your interest in YOUR CLUB has saved thousands of dollars in labor to complete these projects.

We have a few projects for 2011 and would hope that you will join us again. If you have a suggestion for a club project, please let us know.

THANK YOU again and have a safe 2011 boating season
